Pearl is really probably a war veteran of sorts. It's sort of insinuated in Rose's Scabbard and bits of other episodes that she fought alongside Rose in some Gem civil war of sorts. Like 5000 years ago or something.

But why are alien communities always, like, planet-wide while we have countries who are constantly at each other's throats? Like the entire race attacks a planet or something. Or Gem culture. Western Gem culture? Eastern? Northern or whatever? Do they just live on a really tiny planet?))

I guess whenever they get space warps, distance isn't really an issue anymore. Plus, I guess it would get a hell of a lot more easier to establish a global rulership when you could just gather a couple of your good (Gem) friends and fuse into a super powered giant and beat everybody else in combat.
